How can I submit my music, video, theatrical or poetry piece for consideration for an award?

Entries will be available before the award show. Entries can only be submitted at that time. The entry packets will have all the information you need on how to submit. In order to submit, memberships must be current.

How much is it to enter my materials for the Award Show?

There is no cost to enter. All we ask is that you have a current paid membership with the NMHEA.

How can I help with the award show or events the NMHEA is having?

The NMHEA is always looking for assistance for all our events as well as for the award show. You can either call the office at 505.508.4443 or by contacting us.

How are the entry packets judged?

Entry packets are prepared once received. The preparation process includes gathering the entries and changing them over to a blank CD or DVD. The entertainers names are not included or listed, only the song title, title of the piece, etc. and entry number. Each submission is given an entry number to keep the artist anonymous from the judge. The judges are given only the newly made CD or DVD with the judging sheets. The judging is based off of, performance if a video is used, or a CD if a music is used. Musical judging is based off intonation, articulation, pronunciation, timing, arrangement, mixing, mastering and song overall. After the entries are judged, they are returned to the accountant for a tally. The accountant will complete the tally and maintain the winners until the Award Show. The artists with the top five scores per category are provided to the president from the accountant, and the president will announce these as the nominees. At the show, the accountant will provide the president the winners in sealed envelopes, in front of all attendees. The winners are revealed during the show. Only the president of the NMHEA knows who the judges are and the judges are not informed of whom the other judges are at any other time. All judges will be revealed at the Award Show with their full credentials in the award show program.

How can I vote for the KANW People’s Choice?

The people’s choice award is a popular voting process. The categories are Female Vocalist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year and Band of the Year. The public can send us their votes either through our website or can mail their votes to our Post Office Box. Only one vote per envelope address and e-mail address will be counted. If duplicate votes are provided they will be disqualified and only one will be counted. All votes received, are turned over to the accountant and tallied. The accountant will provide in a sealed envelope, the award winners, to the NMHEA president the night of the award show. Artists can only win an award in one category and votes are only accepted during allowed times.

How are judges determined?

The president will select a minimum of 3 judges to judge the award show entries. The judges are determined by education and/or experience in their fields. The president does select at least one judge from out of state who is familiar with Hispanic or Latin style entertainment. If you are interested in becoming a judge, please contact Joy Gutierrez, NMHEA President by contacting us.

How do I become a board member?

The NMHEA is always open to brining on new board members. Board members must be current paid members of the NMHEA and must be able to obtain an open mind to new and fresh ideas and can work well with others in a group. Potential board members must have some type of background in Latin or Hispanic entertainment. Contact Joy Gutierrez, President of the NMHEA for more information.

How are the Mark Ipitois, Johnny Hernandez and Lifetime Achievement Awards Recipients determined?

The organization request nominations to be sent to the NMHEA with a resume and/or biography on the person being nominated by the noted entry date; once the nominations are received, the board of directors and board members will review the nominations. The recipients are determined by a board of director majority vote all with the premise of what this individual has done for the Hispanic Entertainment industry for that prior year. As these Awards are held in high regard, the consideration processes is wih careful consideration and takes time for the board members and board of directors to determine. Full descriptions of these awards and the criteria are provided in the Award Show Entry Packet.

How do I become a sponsor?

The NMHEA is always looking for sponsorship or donation dollars, as this is what makes our organization operational. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact Joy Gutierrez, NMHEA President by contacting us for more information.

How can I perform or present an award at the award show?

Performers and presenters are finalized as soon as possible for the award show, within the allowed timelines. Prior award show winners are given first consideration, for thier accomplishments the prior year. Artists that performed for the prior year award show cannot perform a second time in a row, as we try to give all members a chance to perform for the award show. Current members will receive first right or refusal for the award show performances before other entertainers are considered or contacted. If you are interested in performing or presenting an award you can contact the NMHEA or by calling (505) 508.4443.
